Advanced LiDAR Sensor
PreAct Technologies is a developer of near-field flash LiDAR products. PreActs’ high-performance, low-cost sensor solutions address use cases across multiple industries. These include healthcare, security and transportation. In short, any sector that requires detailed 3D mapping and modelling.
After an extensive search, PreAct selected Porticos Asia as the manufacturing partner for its Mojave LiDAR Sensor, the first application of the PreAct technology. Mojave is an all-purpose, cost-effective indoor LiDAR, and is available for purchase at Amazon and other online sites.
PreAct’s objective in selecting a production facility for Mojave was to leverage the advantages of suppliers in SE Asia. These advantages are high-quality, low-cost production and optimal speed to market. At the same time PreAct wished to avoid any punitive, country-related tariffs. With these objectives in mind we identified a supply chain comprising part suppliers in China and PCBA and final assembly and testing in Indonesia.
At the point we were engaged by PreAct engineering prototypes of Mojave had been built and tested. Working with the selected suppliers, Porticos Asia conducted a thorough design for manufacturing assessment before proceeding to the industrialization phase.
The imaging technology used, especially the 3D imager, is highly sensitive to dust. For this reason, a class 100 clean room was built specifically to produce Mojave. The same 3D imager is extremely fragile necessitating the development of a custom fixture for the SMT equipment allowing picking and placing without direct contact with the component.
The production of Mojave includes several unique manufacturing and quality processes which required custom fixtures. Of these, calibration fixtures were consigned by PreAct. Otherwise, all fixtures were designed and fabricated by us working with the final assembly facility.
Following the successful launch of Mojave in 2024 we have started work on the next application of PreAct’s technology with the launch of the next product, to be used in the transportation sector, scheduled for the second half of 2025.
