Measuring surface microbial contamination 

Since 1982 Neogen has provided solutions for food processing, animal protein and agricultural industries. One such solution is a handheld device used to measure surface microbial contamination. A proprietary reagent contained in a sample cartridge is wiped on the surface to be tested and then loaded into the device for sample analysis.

This device had a number reliability issues and because it was over 12 years old lacked many of the data/connectivity features found in modern devices. For this reason, Neogen engaged Porticos Inc for a complete product upgrade encompassing mechanical, electrical and firmware design. And because of our track record for industrialization Neogen selected Porticos Asia for prototype tooling and parts development

By opting for a turnkey solution Neogen was able to greatly accelerate the lead time to first engineering samples. And from initial engineering concepts, working closely with Porticos US, Porticos Asia provided input on manufacturability. Also, industrialization work was initiated in parallel to the design being completed. This meant we were able to consign the first parts just four weeks after the receipt of the final drawing files.
